After eight years of study, scientists are beginning to understand more about how wolverines live in Yellowstone's 9,000-foot crags. The range of an adult male can cover 500 square miles, larger territory than that claimed by grizzly bears, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society and its scientific partners. And they can move fast, seemingly "floating" on the snow's surface with large feet, and crossing from one side of the Tetons to the other in just hours.

Wolverines are a candidate for inclusion on the nation's list of endangered species.
