This Southern pig-tailed macaque was photographed in Bukit Barisan Selatan, Indonesia, as part of the first Global Camera Trap Mammal study, which produced an unprecedented 52,000 photos of 105 species of mammals hidden in remote wild areas on three continents.
Camera traps are placed in wild areas and left to be triggered by passing wildlife. The photos are harvested, giving scientists data about local populations of animals in their natural habitat.
