A health worker in Mali lifts slabs of mud to look for moisture in the dry lakebed. This photo is among those featured in a new exhibit coordinated by Conservation International to call attention to world water crises at G2 Gallery in Venice, Calif.
"Fresh Water: The Essence of Life" is open til May 8 and features stunning images drawing attention to the fact that only 2.5% of the world's water is potable fresh water, and population growth, climate change, pollution and waste are straining that supply. The photos, from 17 photographers, are also available in a new book of the same name, Fresh Water: The Essence of Life ($58 at amazon.com)
