The average temperature across the world in January 2013 tied 1995 as the ninth warmest on record, since temperature record keeping began in 1880, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. If you're younger than 37, you've never witnessed a cooler-than-average January (the last was 1976). It's the 335th consecutive month (since 1985) with global average temperatures above the 20th century average.
