Scientists at the British Antarctic Survey's Rothera Research Station marked the first sighting of the sun, after several weeks of continual darkness, with the raising of their flag. Temperatures hovered around zero Fahrenheit for the ceremony.
Just as summer hasn't ended in the Northern Hemisphere, winter has several weeks to go in the Southern Hemisphere.
