Believe it or not, you are looking at I-5 north as floodwaters were just barely starting to recede. It disappears into a massive lake that consumed a small airport and roughly 20 miles of the interstate between Centralia and Chehalis. The northbound side is actually cracked and crumbling, which might ultimately prolong the closure of I-5 in Washington. Several people were parking on the freeway overpasses to get out and see the damage for themselves.

Washington Flooding I5

I took this photo standing on I-5 Southbound facing north. Due to the flooding of the Chehalis River, parts of I-5 between Centralia and Chehalis were under 10 feet of flood water. The National Guard was brought in to help with rescue efforts and to close off the interstate freeway between Seattle and Portland.
