Because 'Going Green' Is ... Fun?

An arcade recycling game and a piano-playing staircase try to change the world.

Remember when you were young and your parents used to make airplane sounds as they zoomed a forks-full of broccoli or peas (or whatever veggie you hated) into your mouth? Remember how you actually liked it? The Fun Theory is kind of like that. It's a site and contest sponsored by Volkswagen with "the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behavior for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or something entirely different, just so long as it’s change for the better."

The site gives three amazing examples of what you could do for the contest: a piano staircase that you can play instead of riding the escalator, an arcade recycling machine (you rarely hear "high score, yea!" when someone's recycled a lot), and a sound effects garbage can that makes a most satisfactory ker-plunk. I'd love to see some of The Daily Green's tips made into awesome videos. I wonder how you could make going to the farmers' market more fun (it's already pretty fun to lots of TDGers). Perhaps you could have some sort of composting game? Enjoy the videos below and good luck to you if you decide to make your own. The competition closes on November 15th and is open to all.

Hat tip to Elizabeth for showing me The Fun Theory.
