Green Is the New Black at Barneys

Sustainable Window Shopping

New York City's shops windows have long been a stop in the holiday tourists route. This year visitors to Barneys New York, a luxury shopping store, will see a green themed window made of many recycled materials, including bottles, cans and metro cards.

The star of this "Green" show is Rudolph the Recycled Reindeer, made of a mosaic of bottle tops. The supporting cast is a sustainable tree of eco-activists including Bono, Al George and more. Another exciting feature is the 12 Green Days of Christmas" ...7 sustainable ostrich farms, 6 compost toilets, 5 rolls of recycled gift wrap... and a Prius in a pear tree." Barney's has committed to planing 25,000 trees through American Forests (American Forest.org)

The Green theme is definitely more humorous then anything else but, they are selling a few "green" products as well. This is obviously a first step for Barneys', but a noticeable one that I want to commend. It made me think of what others might be doing to "Green" the holiday season. Possible using LED lights on the tree or wrapping gifts in recycled paper (I'm trying newspaper this year). Send me you Green Holiday photos or other "Signs of the Times" photos.
