Each Hospital Responsible for 100,000 Pounds Of Pesticides
Company's Claim: Buy Organic Cotton To Avoid Pollution
COMMUNITY NEWS
As their first product launch to the Hospitality Industry with the Organic Cotton line, Smyrna Organic Products is revealing their marketing efforts to help Hospitals, Hotels, and Cancer Treatment Centers reduce consumption of Carcinogen-laden traditional Cotton by promoting the use of their Organic Cotton Bed and Bath products under the oLife brand.
On Premise Laundry operators in these sectors are already implementing strategies under the LaundryESP program, to reduce pollutants and conserve energy. The company states that their products are in line with these initiatives and take it to a next level with the reduction in use of Pesticide.
According to the USDA, in one year alone over 57 Million pounds of pesticide were used on U.S. cotton fields. The EPA considers 7 of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton as likely or known human carcinogens.
According to estimates by Smyrna Organic Products President, Mr. Cem O. Onus, a 300 Bed hospital using Organic cotton linen equals a reduction of pesticide use by 100,000 lbs. per year. Thats not all of the reduction either. According to Word Bank Group Approximately 200 kilograms of waste are generated per metric ton of active ingredients (Pesticide) manufactured. Therefore, roughly 20,000 kilograms of toxic waste is generated for a 300 Bed hospital per annum for their traditional cotton linen requirements. Our products are in accordance with the Control Union, which certifies our products as 100% Organic Cotton. We are happy to be a part of the Green Initiatives.
