I was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the effects of pharmaceuticals in groundwater, especially in Southern California?

If contaminated water or sites that have heavy pharmaceutical contamination can leach into our groundwater supply?

I'm very interested about this subject, so if any answers and comments can be shared it would be greatly appreciated.
