Completed in 2005, Feynan Ecolodge is owned by the Royal Society of the Conservation of Nature of Jordan, which was established to help protect the country's threatened ecosystems. The lodge was created to support the Dana Nature Reserve and to provide alternative income opportunities for local Bedouins, who have struggled in recent years due to pressures from livestock overgrazing.
Guests at Feynan enjoy guided nature walks, camel rides through the picturesque desert, visits to Roman and Byzantine ruins and chances to partake in unique Bedouin culture. The lodge was built by locals out of local materials, and boasts some 80 solar panels. Public areas are candlelit by night, setting a romantic mood.
