Get to Know the Nature of NYC. Yes Nature.

It's time for Wildflower Week 2010!

You don't have to take a helicopter tour of the Canadian Rockies to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Those of us who live in an increasingly urbanized world can also take advantage of small pockets of peace, in community gardens, abandoned lots, meadows or parks. Here in New York City, for instance, we have 53,000 acres of open space to enjoy.

And scattered across that open space are some 778 native plants. Rediscovering these floral gems is part of the mission of NYC Wildflower Week, which is happening now, running until May 9. There are 45 plus exciting events happening across all five boroughs of the city, so don't miss it!

The city has already lost 40% of it's flora, according to the week's organizers, but much remains.

Check out a garden tour, lecture, or native plant workshop, or dine on delectable edibles at a local restaurant. It's fun, family friendly, and you'll be glad you did!
