This sure-to-please dish is easy to prepare and travels well.

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sour cream
1 cup grated sweet pear
9 1/4-inch-thick fresh pear slices

PREPARATIONS
Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly butter and flour 9 4-inch tart pans. Combine the first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl and set aside. Beat the butter and sugar, using a mixer set on high speed, until light and fluffy. Add the spices, egg, and vanilla; mix to combine. Reduce speed to low, add the flour mixture and sour cream. Stir in the pears. Pour 1/3 cup batter into each mold, top with a pear slice; bake for 20 minutes and cool.
