The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and WebMD announced today a collaboration that will help consumers get valuable information from the FDA. According to the press release, this new venture highlights the FDA's exploration of new technologies with the understanding that consumers get their information from a variety of different sources.
WebMD's website will feature information released by the FDA such as the safety of FDA-regulated food, medicine and cosmetics. Registered WebMD users can also sign up for FDA public health alerts. This partnership will also feature FDA consumer updates in WebMD The Magazine at least three times a year. WebMD.com has nearly 50 million unique visitors a month, and WebMD The Magazine is a bimonthly magazine that reaches nearly nine million consumers and is distributed to physicians' waiting rooms.
Previously, FDA recalls have been published on the FDA's website, but in the past the news has been slow to reach the public, leaving those products on shelves or being eaten long after the recalls have been made.
