The Health Benefits of Tea

Scientists Increasingly Turn up Evidence Supporting Claim that Tea is Good for You

By Dan Shapley

Cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol -- the list of ailments supposedly aided by a simple cup of tea seems to grow every day.

While the science is relatively young -- with most studies having been conducted in the last five years, according to USA Today -- there is ample evidence that, at the least, tea is not bad for you. Studies have mostly focused on geographic areas, comparing tea-drinking communities to others, and to laboratory animal tests.

Before reaching for a tea extract, consider studies that have highlighted suspected risks, and before reaching for another bottled iced tea, however, remember that packaged tea drinks can also include a lot of sugar and other ingredients.

But a good-old steep can not only relax you, it may well be good for your health too.
