Shoppers who visit BJ's Wholesale Club should check their spice racks for Earths Pride Organics oregano, packaged in a 2.2-ounce glass jar with a cork, because the oregano could be contaminated with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration and Olde Thompson Inc., which announced a recall.
Look for the following Lot #s printed on the bottom of the jar: 060367, 060692, 061252 and 061864; and look for this UPC code: 400000290942. The organic oregano was sold in BJ's Wholesale Club stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia between January 1, 2013 and July 10, 2013.
Consumers should dispose of the spice without consuming it. Salmonella may trigger symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, and symptoms can sometimes be severe or even fatal in the very young, very old or in those with compromised immune systems.
