Frango Organic Chocolates

By Annie Bell Muzaurieta

Macy's Inc. announced that due to growing consumer demand for more organic products, the store will introduce a line of organic candy.

Frango organic mint chocolates will be introduced next month - on Earth Day - at 70 Macy's stores, mostly in the midwest, and online, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The candies will be packaged in recycled paperboard boxes printed with vegetable-based ink.

Frango is a classic candy associated with Marshall Field's, the Chicago institution of a department store. Macy's acquired the Frango business in 2005 as part of its $11 billion purchase of rival May Department Stores Co., which owned Marshall Field's. Though production was moved out of the city a few years ago, Macy's recently returned some Frango production to Chicago as a goodwill gesture.
