Steroids were found in 13 of 52 diet supplements tested by Informed-Choice, a nonprofit coalition of dietary-supplement companies, according to USA Today.
And six had steroids that had been banned by the U.S. government.
The group tested mainstream brand-name products, but refused to reveal which tested positive for steroids, according to USA Today. Testosterone boosters, perhaps unsurprisingly, were the most likely to have steroids.
In most cases, a good diet that includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains and other basic foods should give people all the nutrients they need. Unless your physician recommends a supplement, adjusting your diet is usually the wiser course of action.
