Restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has committed to selling only naturally raised meat by 2008. At the start of 2007, the chain dropped some dairy that was derived from Monsanto's bovine growth hormone (rBGH) and went with Daisy Brand as their supplier for rBGH-free sour cream.
Next on the hit list? The Rocky Mountain News is reporting today that PETA has asked the chain, as well as other fast-food establishments, to use chicken suppliers that use a "less cruel" method of slaughter, namely a method by which the "oxygen that chickens breathe is slowly replaced by inert gases". This practice is not as wide spread presently which would create a challenge in supplying their 600+ fast-casual restaurants.
The chain is known for their naturally raised meats raised by farmers practicing humane animal husbandry. The animals are never given antibiotics or added hormones and are fed a strict vegetarian diet.
