Stock Bulk Foods
The safest packaging is no packaging at all. You'll follow just about every reputable bit of health advice if you choose more whole foods and fewer processed foods. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables don't typically come with the same bright health claims that packaged foods do, but they're often the healthiest choice in the grocery store. Some health experts recommend shopping only the perimeter of the grocery store to avoid stocking up on overly processed foods. One bonus in those whole foods typically come with minimal packaging, so you won't have to worry about chemicals leaching into your foods. Even cereal was recently called into question when a chemical called methylnapthalene was found to be leaching from bags into cereal whose boxes advertised their whole grain content.
