Philadelphia-based journalist Sasha Issenberg's book, "The Sushi Economy" gives an inside look at the sushi trade and what it takes for a piece of fish to get from the ocean to your dinner plate and the multitude of (and often anonymous) people involved who make that not-so-easy business transaction happen. Tracing the fish's journey across the world reveals the fact that the bluefin tuna in your favorite sushi roll may have crossed two different hemispheres and changed hands nine times in the process. What the book doesn't reveal though is the dire consequences the brisk trade and unrelenting consumer demand may have on the fate of the declining supply of bluefin tuna (or other popular fish used) as demand increases and fears of a shortage emerge.
