In the latest episode of Scary Foods of China, we have on the menu dumplings stuffed with pork and cardboard. According to Beijing News today, the Beijing Industry and Commerce Bureau found a dim sum vendor making and selling a variety of dumplings filled with chopped cardboard and an industrial solvent softener; ingredients not typically found on anybody's food pyramid. The good news this time is that this vendor is not importing said delicacy to the United States or elsewhere. The bad news is that for the people of Beijing, this, along with the production of industrial solvent-tinged toothpastes, and other food safety scares, are becoming an everyday kind of thing.
