Scientists Call For New Guidelines To Clear Confusion About Which Fish To Eat Farmed or wild? Imported or domestic? Sokeye or Chinook? After years of warnings about mercury contaminants in seafood and destructive fishing practices imperiling the oceans balanced by reports about the many health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids found in abundance in fish, consumers are understandably confused about which fish to choose, which fish to eat, and whether to bother at all. Add to that the latest worries that farmed fish imported from China contained banned, carcinogenic antibiotics, and the confusion grows only deeper. That's why a group of scientists in the Pacific Northwest are calling for a new study and report to establish clear guidelines for the average Joe buying shrimp and salmon at the local grocery store.
