Chinese beekeepers are so committed to cheap production - even if it means housing bees in containers that leach toxic compounds - that some will do anything to stop reform. Here's what happened when a Chinese entrepreneur named Sun Baoli tried to hold beekeepers using his grove to higher standards: He was ambushed and beaten by local beekeepers. The anecdote is sad, and it highlights yet another unknown in the vast international network of food producers that supply the United States with food. China sent $3.8 billion worth of food to the United States last year, including honey.
