Love 'em or
hate 'em, there's just no denying that
Slow Food is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of sustainable eating. And nowhere was this fact more obvious than at the Labor Day weekend extravaganza known as Slow Food Nation. Part
farmers market, part
county fair, with a dash of college
symposium and
rock-concert venue thrown in for good measure, the foodie-fest was the subject on
everyone's lips (and
blogging fingers) for what seemed like weeks on end.
Food lovers came from near and far to wander through the Victory Garden planted in front of San Francisco's city hall, nibble their way through the nearby "Slow on the Go" booths -- where ham-gilded biscuits from Scott Peacock and a Seattle-style muffaletta sandwich from Armandino Batali were among the much-lauded offerings -- and take part in formal nibbling at the Taste Pavilions across town at Fort Mason Center.
If you missed out, don't despair: From all accounts, the Slow Food Nation planners are hoping to make their festival an annual event.
