Mixology Monday the blog-event brainchild of spirits writer Paul Clarke brings together the world's cocktail bloggers for a monthly party based on an ever-changing theme. Hosted by Save the Drinkers, the 30th edition of the blog-around-town event took inspiration from the notion of "Local Flavors," searching out the best local ingredients and drinks from more than 40 destinations.
Although some participants chose to feature a cocktail invented in their hometown, many others took the other route: gathering local ingredients artisan spirits, as well as farmers' market produce to whip up seasonal sips.
Bloggers from Stockholm to Seattle led readers on a tour of their local libations, giving an around-the-globe glimpse into the micro-distilling movement's popularity. Gin-and-tonics made with actual London dry gin rubbed elbows with Manhattans made from New York rye. On the obscure-spirits beat, readers got a virtual taste of spruce-infused vodka from a tiny distillery on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. And in a masterful use of multiple flavors, Oregon's Blair Reynolds (better known as Trader Tiki) combined a plethora of hometown favorites Aviation Gin, BridgePort pale ale, and local berries into the refreshing-sounding Bridgetown Shamble.
