CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) are gaining in popularity thanks to the tireless efforts of farmers across the country and those local-minded individuals that want to fill their table with sesonal food.
Those willing to shell out a few bucks are paying upfront for the best food Mother Nature has to offer. In return, individuals get the satisfaction of knowing where much of their food comes from, how it's grown and who actually grew it.
In the case of grower Steve Young -- he traded in the dog-eat-dog corporate world that he was a part of for a life of organic farming, choosing instead to compete with the ups and downs of nature over that of the traditional career ladder.
Young's farm is a part of the ever growing number of CSAs where individuals will gladly pay in advance for their farm fresh food from spring through late fall. Planting and harvesting still requires a terrific amount of people-hours. This coupled with uncertain weather conditions and the uphill battle against weeds and pests a farmer faces may seem daunting to some. CSA growers such as Young seem to take it all in stride knowing at the end of the day that Mother Nature is in full control of his destiny but also realizes that he's providing an invaluable service to his community.
