Going the Distance to Buy Local

In an attempt to bring local foods to their kitchen tables, as well as create their own community of individuals that favor organic food grown in an environmentally responsible way, some are going the distance in order to actually make it happen.

More and more small communities of like-minded souls are banding together to hit the road and travel well outside of where they live to find local ingredients from farmers they know have taken steps to ensure that their products have been sustainably raised.

This may put a new spin on the term "food miles" but those involved feel it's worth the extra effort and energy to forgo industrial organic foods and buy from sources where they've been able to talk to the grower and see the lay of the land on which their foods have been produced.
