Renovating your home can be a costly venture, for both you and the environment. Not only do you need to replace old material with something new, but you may release dust, volatile organic compounds and other pollutants. One way to help reduce such impact is to use recycled products, such as EnviroGLAS.

Texas-based EnviroGLAS uses recycled glass and porcelain to create countertops, tiles, terrazzo flooring and landscape material. The products are said to be easy to maintain, cost-effective, environmentally friendly and unique. Customers can choose from existing mixes of glass or customize their own with different sizes and colors of glass or porcelain pieces. (Find out how to install ceramic tiles here)

Since being founded in 2003, EnviroGLAS has diverted nearly 1,250 tons of glass and porcelain from landfills, won the Texas Environmental Excellence Award and supplied products to Nike, Starbucks and Whole Foods, as well as numerous airports, schools and hotels.

An EnviroGLAS countertop costs between $50 and $70 per square foot, making it slightly cheaper than granite, and slightly more expensive than laminate surfaces. EnviroGLAS products can be shipped all over North America.
