With New York set to launch Phase 2 of one of the nation's biggest "Cash for Appliances" programs Oct. 1, folks are busy searching for energysavers.gov, a federal site that has loads of worthwhile information about choosing energy efficiency and renewable energy home improvements that will pay back in energy bill savings. What it doesn't have is an easy way for people to find what they're looking for today: Information on Cash for Appliances.
Cash for Appliances is the name being used to describe the rebate program available for homeowners who want to replace refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers. At least, that's what the rebates apply to in New York. In New Jersey, rebates are available for clothes washers, dehumidifiers, lighting and air conditioners.
What gives? Every state's rebate program is different, because every state can spend federal stimulus cash differently to encourage the replacement of outdated and inefficient appliances (the powering of which can add up to as much as 20% of a household's energy bills).
