Through its subsidiary Zero Emissions Energy, National Wind Solutions, Inc. has announced progress on fuel cell research, which some view as among the most promising of emerging clean technologies.

The announcement comes after Iceland's pioneering push toward a hydrogen-based, fuel cell infrastructure has stalled amid the small country's deep economic woes. But what exactly is Zero Emissions Energy up to? They claim to have:

identified several major cost saving opportunities in the patent portfolio it currently has the option to acquire. These efficiencies include light weight, economical materials for the fuel cell casing as well as a design that allows the fuel cell to operate at atmospheric pressure. Lowering the per kilowatt cost of producing fuel cells will be a major step toward wider adoption of this technology. (source)

The company is looking for additional funding from governments, grants or other sources. The researchers have already benefited from r&d in the university system.

According to the company, their fuel cell is expected to be economical to manufacture, operate at atmospheric pressure and run on natural gas. The goal is for homes or businesses to generate all of their energy needs from existing natural gas service, through use of the fuel cell.
