Spring is not just for cleaning. It is also a good time to catch up on necessary home maintenance. Otherwise, nature and chaos will begin slowly reclaiming your abode, and small problems will magnify into big headaches.

But what to do? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has these suggestions:

  1. Clear your gutters and downspouts of leaves and debris.
  2. Check decks and railings; replace any damaged wood and apply paint or sealants.
  3. Trim your trees, and check for any diseases that may need treating (hiring an arborist is a good idea).
  4. Check for any termite damage, and consider hiring pros to go deeper. If they find something, ask for less-toxic termite control.
  5. Make sure your air conditioner has clean filters and coils.

Have a happy, safe spring!
