I can tell you two things for sure about the canine persuasion: they love to be comfortable and they are bound to make a mess at some point in their lives, no matter how hard you try to keep them tidy. How do I know this? I have two of the most spoiled, pampered pups in the free world. Nothing is too good for them if it makes their tails wag.

I recently found out about a new line of pet products made from Crypton Fabric, a textile known for stain, water and bacterial resistance. The exiting news is that Crypton is also aiming for sustainability in a variety of ways.

Crypton Fabric says they have reformulated the chemistry behind manufacturing all their textiles, to reduce or eliminate formaldehyde, PFOAs, and halogenated flame retardants, including PBDEs, which are toxic. As a result, according to the company, the textiles have ultra-low or undetectable off-gassing. The factory itself has a high-tech scrubber to clean up its industrial emissions. Crypton has also implemented water-free chemistry, which has slashed the manufacturer's H2O use by 40% since 2003.

All Crypton fabrics are made in America. The company buys renewable energy credits, and the North Carolina plant even has a system that recaptures waste energy for reuse. Fabric scraps are also reused on site. If materials can't be reincorporated into the production process, they end up as carpet padding or plastic parts for cars.

Crypton's manufacturing processes are certified Cradle to Cradle Basic by MBDC, McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, and by SCS, Scientific Certification Systems. Both are third-party auditors who specialize in sustainable product certification.

The company has also released a line called Crypton Green, made from 100% recycled polyester. Crypton Green actually qualified for Cradle to Cradle Silver designation. It's worth noting too that Crypton products carry a 5-year warranty.

Since I hear a lot of complaints that going green is too costly, I'm glad to report that Crypton's prices are great. Sorry, but the economy shouldn't cause me to hold out on my pets! Crypton has dog mats starting at $29, and chic doggie accessories -- including coats, collars and leashes -- from $32! They have fashionable, unique designs from William Wegman, Molly B., and Michael Graves.

Crypton makes products for humans too. Everything from tote bags to eco-friendly armchairs (even for kids!). There are many colors and designs to choose from. I even showed the most indecisive person on Earth, my mother, and she was impressed. Now if only they offered vehicle interiors for those dirty road trips my pups and I take...
