Graco, Simplicity, Pooh. These brand names familiar to parents of babies and toddlers are involved today in a massive recall of cribs implicated in the deaths of two infants and one toddler. The cribs were sold in department stores, mass retailers and children's stores across America from 1998 to May, 2007.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the cribs were manufactured in China and marketed here in America by Simplicity, Inc. of Pennsylvania. Cribs now join toys, toothpaste and dog food in massive Chinese-manufactured recalls in the last three months. The first recalled crib models were sold in January 1998 and the last of the models were sold in May 2007. The recalled Simplicity crib models include: Aspen 3 in 1, Aspen 4 in 1, Nursery in a Box, Crib N Changer Combo, Pooh 4 in 1, Chelsea, and the following cribs with the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in 1, Ultra 5 in 1, Trio, and Whitney. The model numbers are: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996. Parents are being strongly advised to not allow their children to sleep another night in any crib carrying these names and model numbers.
