The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has released notice of a massive recall of cribs made in China and marketed by the Pennsylvania company, Simplicity, Inc., of Reading. The cribs were marketed in department stores, children's stores and mass merchandisers from 1998 to 2007.
The CPSC reports that two babies and one one-year old were killed in the cribs due to manufacturing issues related to both design and construction. Many more less-serious incidents are under investigation. The first recalled crib models were sold in January 1998 and the last of the models were sold in May 2007. The recalled Simplicity crib models include: Aspen 3 in 1 Aspen 4 in 1 Nursery in a Box Crib N Changer Combo Pooh 4 in 1 Chelsea The following cribs with the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in 1, Ultra 5 in 1, Trio, and Whitney.
The model numbers are: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996. Officials recommend that parents check their cribs immediately, and that to stop using at onece those with these model numbers.
