With the holiday toy shopping season fast approaching, and American parents fearful about tucking toxic toys under the tree, toy makers and sellers are putting new emphasis on three little words: Made in America.
In the wake of the Chinese lead paint toy scare, American toy manufacturers are strutting their red, white and blue street cred by rushing to market with new packaging that waves the flag and proudly declares their US-made roots. Websites for these manufacturers have also added the "made in USA" nomenclature.
According to Webmaster Stephanie of the website www.stillmadeinusa.com, toys were the most searched category on her site, which is more typically used to find American-made apparel. Visits to her site's toys section have increased 10-fold since July.
Experts in the toy business say that this Christmas, it is likely that demand for USA made toys will exceed supply, and encourage parents to shop early.
