A die-cast car that may have lead paint, and a toy with magnets that may pose a swallow hazard are on a new list of toys that Mattel Inc. will recall due to hazards they could pose to children. The new list, which is expected to be made public today but which was leaked yesterday to some media outlets, follows closely on a recall of several popular toys that depict children's TV show characters. The latest scandal involving Chinese-manufactured goods highlights again the need for increased vigilance. Hopefully, the attention and fallout -- the head of the factory that manufactured the toys recalled in the first round committed suicide this week -- will bring needed reforms, or self-policing to the industry.
