Reducing consumption is a great way to cut down on the use of raw materials (and the pollution emitted from their production). Rather than going without, use Swaptree to exchange books, music, DVDs and games you already have for some that you're looking for.
Swaptree allows users to trade items listed on their "have lists" for items on their "want lists." You make trades with other users who have what you're looking for and want what you have available. Once you make a deal, all you have to do is buy and print your shipping label, drop your "have" item in the mail and wait!
Swaptree is unfortunately limited to books, music, DVDs and games, but still provides a great resource for those committed to reducing their consumption.
