To reduce the need to blast the air conditioning, give your appliances a rest. Remember that whatever is plugged in and turned on is creating heat. So use the warm weather as an opportunity to take a hiatus from some of your gadgets, and save money and energy in the meantime.
Take a trip out back: Summer time is grilling time, and using an outdoor grill will spare you the need to fire up your oven and heat up your house.
Hang a line: Rather than turning on your clothes dryer, hang a clothesline outside to dry your laundry. You'll save on energy, your clothes will last longer and your house won't be pumped with the extra heat from the machine.
Be efficient: As you replace broken appliances and light bulbs, make sure to buy energy-efficient ones. They'll give off less heat, and save you money on energy use besides.
