Oct. 24 is the first annual Food Day, which aims to "bring together Americans from all walks of life... to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way."
In 2011, the focus of Food Day is on the simple and profound benefits of eating real food, rather than the highly processed foods that crowd so many supermarkets.
Now those are goals we can get behind.
Sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Food Day is supported by Congressional representatives. And the point of the day goes beyond the personal to the political. Not only do the organizers want to see individuals eat more healthy and pay attention to their own diets, but they want to improve the food system generally.
