Adopt a Supermarket

Track down the manager of your local supermarket and ask him or her whether they buy local products, and encourage them to do so. You may be surprised to find out just how much they're already locally sourcing, particularly in states with a relatively high amount of agriculture.

Although shopping at a farmers' market is always a good bet, not everyone has access to one 12 months a year. Sometimes even the most committed "localtarian" has to rely on the local supermarket.

Luckily, there are numerous major supermarket chains around the nation such as Wegmans and King Kullen in New York, and even a Kmart in Michigan, that have programs in place to buy more locally raised products.

No wonder: people like us are demanding it and getting results!
