Okay, so you've figured out how to calculate your carbon footprint. And once you've reduced it as much as possible, you can ease your conscience by purchasing CO2 offsets to compensate for what remains.

Several companies, both for-profit and nonprofit, will channel your money toward projects that reduce an equivalent amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Sustainable Travel International, for instance, invests in energy efficiency projects in developing countries. Native Energy invests in alternative energy projects for Native Americans and family farmers. And the Carbon Fund allows you the option of supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and/or reforestation projects.
