Borrow Books and Opt for E-Subscriptions

The average American family spends $118 on books, magazines and newspapers every year, and all the paper used to print those words adds up. So stop reading!

Just kidding, of course. Keep reading, but read more digital editions of your favorite publications, and borrow more of what you want to read in print from the local library. By using the local library, you will read a book that gets a lot more use — and consequently has a lower environmental impact. Libraries are also great places to go for free access to newspapers and magazines in print, and the proliferation of e-readers like the Kindle and tablet computers like the iPad makes it easier than ever to read the digital editions of your favorite publications.

And students, look for every opportunity to borrow or rent the textbooks you need for school. You'll save money and waste less paper.
