Sunflower and marigold seeds from dead plants can be dried out, then placed in a glass jar with a lid. In the spring, you can start new plants by placing in a pot or long-length planter and covering with plastic.

The seeds germinate in a few days. Once the plants are large enough, you can plant in the ground.

One year I left the seeds out in my garage in a flat box, only to find chipmunks had fed on them. I had empty shells. I am not sure how many generations of plants you can get. This is fun to do with kids!
