Zero Pollution Motors has big plans for a compressed air hybrid car that could get better than 100 miles per gallon.

Wow.

A contender for the X Prize, Zero Pollution Motors is at least winning in the media. CNN, NBC's Today Show, Time Magazine and the Discovery Channel have all featured the concept car, which could be on the road in 2010.

How does the "world's cleanest car" -- as the company bills its product -- work?

According to the Zero Pollution Motors Web site, the compressed air portion of the engine -- described by CNN as roughly equivalent to a locomotive's steam engine, but without the steam -- could run the car at speeds under 35 mph. Above that, and the engine would burn fuel to boost power.
