Dwindling Snow Linked to Global Warming

Or Is it the Warming That's Linked to Flagging Snowfall?

Though snow hit much of the Northeast yesterday, forecasters predict this year’s winter will be mild and “snowless,” reported the Philadelphia Inquirer. According to accumulated snow data, the last three years have seen a dwindling snowfall. This winter is expected to follow suit.

It comes as no surprise that most scientists confidently charge global warming for the snow drop-off. Yet, many climatologists question if humans are to blame — decreased snow and increased temperatures could be a simple coincidence, anomaly or case of “which came first, the chicken or the egg?”

Some scientists question if the world is warmer because of less snow, or that there is less snow because the earth is warmer. Either way, scientists can agree to disagree with Chicken Little. The sky will not fall anytime soon.
