Severe weather is sweeping out of the southern plains and the Midwest and into a swath of the U.S. between Texas and Ohio.

Dangerous tornadoes and other violent storms are likely today and Thursday, according to Accuweather.com.

"The Severe Weather Center reports that powerful storms later today will spark outbreaks of heavy rain, hail, damaging winds, and widespread tornadoes across the southern Plains," the private weather service reported. "Thunderstorms this morning have developed as the warm front moves across the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.

The intensity of storms could be reminiscent of the outbreak that disrupted Super Tuesday voting.

More flooding is possible in the Mississippi River Valley.
