Marky Mark Saves the Bees?

The new M. Night Shyamalan (Lady in the Water, Sixth Sense) thriller seems to take as its premise that the honeybee crisis is only the first sign of a mysterious worldwide epidemic that decimates humanity, leaving Mark Wahlberg and his family to deal with the consequences. Is it terrorism? A government project run amok? Or Mother Nature seeking retribution for past wrongs?

The bee crisis is apocalyptic enough, what with "colony collapse disorder" causing millions of bees to abandon their hives without apparent reason. While the first test for honeybees, the almond pollination in California, is progressing, there are new and worrying signs that the affliction is causing new casualties.

It's unlikely the Shyamalan-Wahlberg project will shed any new light on that mystery, but the tagline does ring with that tinny horror-movie feel that the actual bee crisis also conjures: "We've Sensed It. We've Seen the Signs. Now... It's Happening."
