With hurricane-force winds, torrential rain, mudslide, and flash-flood warnings, it is no surprise that many Californians are "calling in sick today." Yet, with the biggest oceanic swells in nearly two years according to the Los Angeles Times, the most intrepid are heading to the beaches for extraordinary surfing conditions.
The biggest breakers were found on Half Moon Bay and Pebble Beach in Carmel. Though lifeguards tried to intervene, surfers were hurled, tumbled and heaved by supersized waves. Nobody was seriously hurt, but according to the LA Times, lifeguards made 14 rescues.
