Steven Chu on Global Warming in His Own Words: Tipping Points, Adaptation, Feedback Loops and Other Candor

Obama's Energy Secretary pick explains in a video message the science behind global warming.

Recognizing that President-elect Barack Obama will go down in history for revolutionizing propaganda via the Internet, we are posting here Steven Chu's recent "Citizen's Briefing Book," a video message from the Energy Secretary to be posted on Obama's transition Website, change.gov.

Chu is candid about the risks of doing too little to reduce greenhouse gas emissions — the positive feedback loops that can trigger tipping points beyond which the world won't recover, the difficulty of adapting to a warmer world, and the need for new transmission lines to carry electricity from remote rural renewable energy sources, like Midwest wind farms, to highly populated cities on the coasts.
